Department of Roads will factor in economic development potential when selecting highways to improve

State roads officials rolled out a new process for selecting highway improvement projects Wednesday to mostly good reviews.

For the first time, the Nebraska Department of Roads also is considering economic development potential and gathering public input in deciding which highways to widen and which new interchanges to build.

It’s not just about traffic counts, congestion and safety.
