The Greater Fremont Development Council’s entry this week into the Greater Omaha Economic Development Partnership is a move toward a more regional approach to economic development, where lines on a map mean less, but the “big dot” is hard to miss.

The GFDC board on Wednesday unanimously approved joining the partnership, a program of the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce that also includes economic development organizations from Douglas, Sarpy, Cass and Washington counties.

“Economic development all around the country is kind of evolving into more of a regional collaborative type of concept,” said Doug Heim, GFDC’s economic development manager, “so within the greater Omaha area, I think probably the more economic development organizations they can put together under one umbrella, the more the entire region benefits.”...
