People visiting the Fremont Lakes State Recreation Area may get the feeling that the park got bigger in the offseason, but it didn't.

The Fremont Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/12QJuTI ) major improvements made under the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission's Angler Access program have resulted in new piers, more open shoreline areas along the lakes, and a series of new trails.

Even regular visitors to the park are discovering areas that previously were difficult to reach.

"People that have been out here before are going to come out here this year and it's going to basically be like a whole new park," said Bill Booth, parks division superintendent.
