A local company’s response to its customers in the wake of spring and summer storms, as well as the economic boost it provides to the local economy through growth and added employment opportunities has earned it special recognition.

Mid-Continent Irrigation was named as the Agricultural Business of the Year by the Fremont Area Chamber of Commerce’s Agricultural Business & Natural Resources Council. The company was honored today at the annual awards ceremony, presented by the Fremont Tribune.

Ron Schultz of the Pathfinder Company is part of the council that nominated Mid-Continent, and has worked with the company closely – buying center pivots from them for farms he manages through Pathfinder and relying on Mid-Continent for the service of those pivots.

“They run an excellent ag business that’s a service to the community,” Schultz said. “They do a great job of servicing the product that they sell.”

Travis and Angela Freund purchased the company from family in November 2010. The business had been in the family since 1986 and is a Performance Plus Dealer providing sales, service and repair of irrigation systems and grain bins to Eastern Nebraska and Western Iowa.

Following a strong storm last April, Schultz said Mid-Continent’s commitment to their customers and industry was clearly illustrated. The storm blew a train off the track at North Bend, and more than 90 center pivots were damaged.
