<p>Eight community projects will benefit from up to $82,773 in Keno community betterment matching funds.</p>
<p>The Fremont City Council approved the projects on Tuesday in accordance with new guidelines that were put in place in January.</p>
<p>Keno match requests in the past were considered individually as they were received, but the new guidelines included an April 1 application deadline, and specified 12 local nonprofit organizations eligible to apply. The chosen organizations, “have demonstrated a commitment to assisting the city and the general public in their purposes,” the written guidelines state.</p>

<p>Metropolitan Community College has received an extension on grant funds for its Health Information Technology program. The one-year grant extension was approved by the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology.</p>
<p>The grant funds 100 percent of tuition and fees for qualifying students to participate in Metro’s Health Information Technology program. “This grant allows Nebraska citizens to be able to scale up their skill set to meet the current and impending jobs to get Nebraska in line with electronic health care records,” Metro HIT Health Consortia director Janee Pannkuk said.</p>
<p>Students in the program train in MCC’s Medical Service Learning Laboratory at the college’s Fremont Area Center.</p>
<p>There, students use high-tech equipment to support training related to electronic medical records, such as computers and software for transcription and data management in an effort to prepare workers for statewide implementation of electronic health information exchange.</p>
