Message from Ron Tillery, Executive Director, Fremont Area Chamber...

The latest data shows our market experienced a stronger than usual seasonal growth of labor force and total numbers of employed in January.  Typically, January numbers bump up, but both Dodge County and Fremont saw larger numbers than in the prior two years.

Comparing year to year, Dodge County added 747 people to the labor force and 765 people to the employed ranks.  In Fremont we saw similar strength with an increase of 516 in the labor force and 552 employed.  In both cases the numbers appear to be the highest on record.  The unemployment rate was 4.7% and 4.5% respectively.

Construction activity in the market remains strong with YTD projects running about 98% ahead of last year.

Retail sales and Residential Home sales are lagging behind last year's pace.  Retail sales may be impacted by the opening of the Blair Walmart Supercenter and residential sales are being compared a strong year where pent up demand may have inflated activity for the first six months of 2012.
