Midland University Announces Local Partnership with Fremont Schools

Midland University recently announced a new strategic partnership with Fremont Public Schools to enable local students to attend and graduate from college through a “grow your own, keep your own” initiative.
The strategic partnership will involve Fremont High School and Archbishop Bergan with the new Tiger to Warrior, and Knight to Warrior Scholarship program. All graduates from Fremont High School and Archbishop Bergan will be offered scholarships renewable for four years based on students high school grade point average and ACT score. Additional needs-based-aid may also be applied, as well as athletic, and performing arts awards to make obtaining a four-year degree more affordable for Fremont graduates.
“This initiative represents a group of potential students that Midland historically has not had much success in tapping into,” said Merritt Nelson, Vice President for Enrollment Management and Marketing. “Fremont High School graduates 320 to 350 students a year, and this program will provide them an opportunity to continue their education in Fremont at Midland University at a cost below that of other private or state colleges and universities, including the University of Nebraska.”
An extension of the longstanding relationship between Midland University and Fremont Public Schools, the new initiative represents a continuation of positive collaborative impact on the community. “As a proud alumnus of Fremont High School, and Midland University, I view the Tiger to Warrior Scholarship opportunity as an absolute game-changer for our students, families and our community,” said Mark Williams, Director of Counseling for Fremont High School. “This scholarship has the potential to change the trajectory of our community and impact many individuals!”
“Students in Fremont, through our dual credit courses offered through Metropolitan Community College and Midland University, have the opportunity to complete nearly an entire year of college before graduating from high school,” said Mark Shepard, Fremont Public Schools Superintendent. “This program supports the Chamber of Commerce and GFDC “Think Local” campaign, and provides an incentive for our best and brightest to stay in Fremont while completing their college degree – our local employers and the entire community stands to benefit.”
