Fremont’s 2024 estimate is now 28,190, a 2.1 percent increase from the year prior.
Why It Matters
While many rural communities are struggling with the impacts of declining populations, Fremont has changed its trajectory in recent years. Communities experiencing population loss often face a shrinking tax base, fewer small business opportunities, and reduced access to essential services and amenities.
Fremont’s rising population can be attributed to increased job opportunities and housing development. This steady growth is making Fremont a more vibrant and sustainable place to live, work, and play.
Why Now?
Fremont’s recent growth is the result of years of intentional planning and targeted investment.
Since 2015, the community has focused on expanding infrastructure, supporting economic development, and improving livability for both current and future residents.
Key drivers of population growth include:
- Establishment of the Fremont Municipal Inland Port Authority
- Expansion of downtown housing and Main Street revitalization
- Continued investment in parks, trails, and public spaces
- More than 30 percent annual growth in residential building permits since 2022
These efforts reflect a shared vision between public and private partners working together to strengthen the region's future.
Fremont’s population is on the rise, and with it comes more opportunity, investment, and energy to shape what comes next.
