Construction of a new hangar and taxiway extension are expected to start soon at the Fremont Municipal Airport.
City Engineer Clark Boschult said the north-south taxiway will be extended 300 feet to accommodate a new 80-foot by 100-foot hangar.
The city council on May 10 approved a 20-year lease agreement with A&A Drug Inc. to erect the hangar and an apron on the south side of the airport.
Hangar construction is privately funded, Boschult said.
The estimated $60,000 taxiway extension will be done as a change order to the 19th Street reconstruction project, and paid for through the airport improvement fund, which is derived through airport user fees, he said.
