Genetically modified organisms have become a hot button issue as several states have attempted to pass legislation restricting the use of the technology in food production, but one food scientist says altering the genetic makeup of plants is as old as agriculture itself.
Ruth MacDonald, chairwoman of the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition at Iowa State University, presented "Facts and Fiction about GMOs in Food" during the 2015 Corn Expo Thursday at Christensen Field in Fremont.
