CreativeMornings comes to Omaha! Fremont native is speaker at premier event!

Omaha Becomes a CreativeMornings City. Everyone is Creative. Everyone is Welcome.

Omaha has officially been accepted into the CreativeMornings community and will join 157 other creative cities across the globe. CreativeMornings is a breakfast lecture series for the creative community and will serve as a new outlet for our city to be recognized on a global scale, adding to Omaha’s strong arts and culture scene and growing reputation.

Kim Sellmeyer, creative director for the Greater Omaha Chamber and Steve Gordon, brand architect and founder of RDQLUS Creative serve as co-hosts for the Omaha chapter. Sellmeyer’s desire for Omaha to become a CreativeMornings community came from the We Don’t Coast brand building process and the need for our community to have a place where creatives could come together to collaborate.

“Omaha CreativeMornings will foster creativity and provide meaningful, long-term, community-building. We want to make it a place where people can come together to learn and be inspired. A place where egos will be checked at the door, friends will be made and new acquaintances will help you to be brave,” said Kim Sellmeyer, Greater Omaha Chamber.

The monthly breakfast lecture series is designed to highlight our creative community which employs more workers in arts and culture than: Salt Lake City; Louisville; Kansas City; Austin; Raleigh, Des Moines, Colorado Springs and Nashville. The first series will kick-off with the global theme, fantasy, Nov. 11 at 8 a.m. at the Hot Shops Art Center. Nebraska native and world travelling photographer Dean Jacobs will headline the event.

Background on CreativeMornings

CreativeMornings is a breakfast lecture series for the creative community. They are free, monthly events that feature a short talk, Q+A and breakfast. CreativeMornings started in NYC in 2008 and has since grown to over 100 cities all over the world. The local chapters not only celebrate a city’s creative talent but also promote an open space to connect with like-minded people. CreativeMornings happen one Friday a month from 8 – 9:30 a.m.

CreativeMornings is accessible to a broad spectrum of creatives, from CEOs and students to startup founders and independent freelancers. Past attendees have connected to build partnerships, meet potential new clients, new hires, and fellow collaborators.

Background on Dean Jacobs

Since 2001, Dean Jacobs has spent seven years traversing across the globe exploring over 57 countries on a low budget adventure, propelled by a desire to understand the world we share.

Jacobs was born in Wahoo, Neb. After living on a farm, his family moved to Fremont, Neb., when he was 5 years old. Growing up in the Midwest gave him an appreciation for the simple things in life. He graduated from Wayne State College, earning a degree in biology, with minors in earth science and art. After graduating, he worked in the administration of Wayne State College as the assistant to the president, before moving on to Purina Mills. Eventually, this path led him to Pfizer Pharmaceuticals where he was employed in sales/marketing for 10 years. After a great deal of soul searching, Jacobs left the security of corporate America, and decided to pursue other dreams. This was the beginning of a process that would lead to a travelling adventure that would span 22 ½ months and cover 28 countries. Taking photos became a natural expression of the journey for Jacobs as he documented and verified the common ground of our humanity. To Jacobs, photography is a discovery process where something extraordinary can be found within the confines of ordinary life. These days, when Jacobs is not travelling, he keeps busy as a contributing newspaper columnist, photojournalist, children’s book author and keynote presenter across the country.

Jacobs recently led students from Wayne State College and the University of Nebraska on a journey to explore the Amazon rain forest and Andean Mountains of South America.
