Fremont, Nebraska.  Stephanie Schurkamp has joined the Greater Fremont Development Council (GFDC) as their Business Specialist. In this role, she will be focused on supporting business retention and expansion, while also deepening the relationship between GFDC and the business community.

Garry Clark, Executive Director of GFDC, said, “Stephanie comes to us with banking experience and client services experience. She has the necessary background to hit the ground running as our Business Specialist and to support our business retention and expansion efforts - a key component in our four pillars of operation. She will continue to help us build relationships with our businesses while maintaining an understanding of their rapidly changing needs. We understand that our growth and sustainability are directly tied to our ability to retain our businesses and to help with their expansion goals. We are very excited to add Stephanie to our team. Fremont Here We Grow. We Don’t Coast, we accomplish more together!”

Stephanie was born and raised in Fremont and graduated from Fremont High School and Midland University. She started her career working in the banking industry. While at First National Bank, she worked closely with numerous businesses in the Fremont area, helping them to find products and services to help with their banking and cash flow needs. This experience taught her the importance of asking questions to dig into the needs of businesses, in order to offer practical solutions. These same interviewing and problem-solving skills will help her when working to retain and expand current businesses in the Fremont area.

The GFDC Business Specialist must also be a good project manager. Business expansion and expansion projects, for example, involve multiple components that are implemented over months, and sometimes - years. Stephanie is also well suited for this task. Having worked as a Project Administrator in the Utility Division of Valmont Industries, she has mastered the skill of both planning and executing a project.

Stephanie has hit the ground running and is already managing GFDC’s Business Retention & Expansion program – planning for the BR&E Blitz, meeting with local businesses and assisting in the administration of the Welstead Fund.

When asked why she was interested in taking on this challenge, Stephanie said, “I was looking for an opportunity to reconnect to Fremont.  I was missing something working away from my hometown and wanted to get back to my community and to be a part of the exciting projects and continued growth in Fremont.” She added, “The Fremont community is home for me.  I love the small town feel that Fremont offers and running into someone you know just about anywhere you go. It’s great connecting with others on a whim!”
