Major expansions at some of Fremont's largest employers took place in 2011.
Natura Pet Products completed phase one of a $10 million, 40,000-square-foot expansion over the summer, including construction of a second tower east of the original tower at the plant. The second phase is on track to be commissioned in January.
The concrete structure includes raw material bins, laboratory space, employee welfare areas and product receiving sstems.
Brian Streit, Natura's vice president of manufacturing, said the addition would increase storage capability and improve quality control. It was also expected to generate 20-25 new jobs at the plant which already employs 150 people.
Natura moved toward further expansion in the fall, signing a purchase agreement with the city for the 23-acre former Izaak Walton shooting range south of Natura, and 25 acres north of the plant across Rademakers Way.
