A new program in Fremont is hoping to match businesses with future employees.
Dan Demuth of Christensen Lumber shared information about the Dream It. Do It. program with business and community leaders during a Thursday luncheon at Metropolitan Community College's Fremont Area Center.
"We've got our companies and our future labor force, and Dream It. Do It. is here to connect those two groups," said Demuth, who also is the area director for Fremont Dream It. Do It.
Through Dream It. Do It., high school students take four trade courses covering a variety of job skills as well as safety training at Metropolitan Community College, followed by a paid internship at a local business.
"By the time they come to work for you, you know that they're dedicated," Demuth said.
The program, Demuth said, is designed to give students work experience while they are in high school while also showing them the types of jobs available in Fremont.
A number of students from Fremont High School already have expressed interest in the program, and Demuth said several businesses also are committed to Dream It. Do It.
"Just like me, they see the need out there," Demuth said. "As much as it's nice to provide the internships and help the students, these companies also get something out of it. It's a way for both entities to really benefit."
Demuth said organizers will begin matching students with businesses, and the program will begin in the fall.
